Project Overview

The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Nanyang Technological University is seeking a Research Fellow with strong expertise in experimental nanophotonics and free electron science.

The role focuses on designing and implementing experiments that combine free electron sources with nanophotonics concepts to develop compact and efficient extreme ultraviolet (EUV) sources. The research has potential applications in areas including EUV spectroscopy and nanolithography.

The successful candidate will work with electron sources such as DC and RF electron guns, vacuum chambers, and free-electron-based instrumentation. Experience with instruments such as scanning electron microscopes and transmission electron microscopes is also relevant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement experiments involving free electron-driven generation of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) radiation.
  • Characterize the EUV properties of nanostructures and use these structures to demonstrate enhanced EUV emission.
  • Lead research papers and publish findings in high-impact journals.
  • Present research results at leading international conferences.
  • Assist the Principal Investigator with grant writing.
  • Support the supervision of graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Provide logistical support for laboratory operations related to the project.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD degree in physics, mathematics, engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong background in photonics.
  • Experience with electron sources, including DC and RF electron guns.
  • Experience in the design and handling of vacuum chambers.
  • Prior exposure to free-electron-based instrumentation, such as scanning electron microscopes or transmission electron microscopes.
  • Working knowledge of electromagnetic simulations.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and present research results using informative visuals.
  • Ability to work under pressure and independently.
  • Ability to develop solutions within strict timelines.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with strong organizational and time-management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Practical experience combining nanophotonics and free electron science.
  • Experience with EUV generation, characterization, or related experimental techniques.
  • Experience working with electron-beam or vacuum-based experimental systems.
