Job Description

Organization: Leibniz-Institut für Kristallzüchtung (IKZ)

Location: Berlin, Germany (Hybrid)

The Leibniz-Institut für Kristallzüchtung (IKZ) invites applications for the IKZ International Fellowship Award 2026 focused on AlGaN-based power electronics and UV photonics. IKZ is a leading research institute dedicated to crystalline materials science, covering research from fundamental studies to pre-industrial development in collaboration with international academic and industrial partners.

The fellowship aims to attract a leading expert in AlGaN heteroepitaxy and device-oriented materials development. The selected fellow will collaborate with IKZ scientists and contribute to advancing semiconductor technologies based on AlGaN and AlN materials.

Research Focus

  • AlGaN heteroepitaxy and epitaxial growth mechanisms.
  • Development of materials and heterostructures for deep-UV optoelectronic devices.
  • Advancement of AlN-based high-power and high-frequency electronic devices.
  • Application-oriented development of semiconductor devices using AlGaN on native AlN substrates.

Key Requirements

  • Internationally recognized scientific achievements in AlGaN heteroepitaxy.
  • Expertise in epitaxial growth techniques such as MOVPE or MBE.
  • Strong track record in scientific publications and research funding.
  • Experience in materials development for optoelectronic or high-power electronic devices.
  • Demonstrated experience in technology transfer through collaborations with industry or startups is highly desirable.

Fellowship Details

  • Fellowship award of €10,000.
  • Flexible guest scientist stay of up to three months at IKZ between 2027 and 2029.
  • Opportunity to initiate collaborative research and develop third-party funded research programs.
  • Access to IKZ expertise and facilities in AlN substrate prototyping and semiconductor materials development.

Application Instructions

Applicants should submit:

  • Letter of motivation including a one-page research concept for potential collaboration with IKZ.
  • Curriculum vitae.
  • Relevant certificates and supporting documents.

Applications must be submitted through the IKZ online application portal.
