About the Research

This PhD program focuses on advancing superconducting quantum processors, where nanoscale device fabrication and quantum engineering play central roles. Key research thrusts include:

Nano-Fabrication & Superconducting Devices

  • Developing and optimizing advanced nano-fabrication processes for qubit production

  • Working with superconducting thin films, Josephson junctions, and resonator structures

  • Using state-of-the-art cleanroom tools to build scalable qubit arrays

Quantum Processor Bring-Up & Control

  • Automating the calibration and stabilization of multi-qubit systems

  • Implementing microwave control pulses and cryogenic signal chains

  • Exploring optimal-control methods for high-fidelity qubit operations

Quantum Algorithms & Benchmarking

  • Benchmarking processor performance

  • Running initial quantum algorithms to test processor behaviour

  • Identifying optimization pathways for speed, stability, and fidelity

This is a deeply interdisciplinary role integrating nanotechnology, superconducting physics, quantum information, microwave engineering, and cryogenic experimentation.

Who Succeeds in This Role

This position is ideal for candidates who have:

  • A Master’s degree in Physics, Nanotechnology, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science

  • Experience with one or more of the following:

    • Superconducting circuits

    • Quantum optics

    • Microwave engineering

    • Quantum information

    • Nano-fabrication

  • Strong motivation to pursue a research career in quantum technology
