Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Spintronics Devices and Materials

Job Description

Organization: National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS)

Affiliation: Research Center for Magnetic and Spintronic Materials, Magnetic Functional Device Group

Location: Sengen Site, Tsukuba City, Ibaraki, Japan

Position Type: Fixed Term | Researcher

Number of Positions: 1

Work Description

The project focuses on next-generation magnetic recording technologies enabling ultra-low power consumption and ultra-high recording density. Research includes magnetic thin-film devices utilizing spin-transfer torque and spin-orbit torque, alongside material studies on magnetic and spin Hall materials.

Responsibilities include novel material development, thin-film fabrication, advanced microfabrication (photolithography/electron beam lithography), and magnetization dynamics evaluation (e.g., FMR). The specific research focus will be aligned with the candidate’s expertise.

The group provides state-of-the-art fabrication and characterization facilities and collaborates with internal NIMS groups and external academic/industry partners.

Note: Duties are subject to change within the scope of the employee’s position.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in materials science, applied physics, or physics (by appointment)
  • Expertise in magnetism and magnetic materials
  • Scientific English communication skills
  • Desirable: thin-film fabrication (sputtering), magnetic characterization, microfabrication, high-frequency measurements, computational materials research
