C2MCI brings together scientists, clinicians, and engineers from Canada and internationally to develop next-generation technologies for surface protection, semiconductor processing, nanomedicine, and advanced materials.<\/p>\n<p>The successful candidate will work on a project investigating <em>Direct Metal-Surface Alignment of Semiconducting Carbon Nanotubes via Carbene-Iptycene Relay Chemistry for Nanoelectronics<\/em>. This project combines synthetic chemistry with nanofabrication and device engineering.<\/p>\n<h3>Research Project<\/h3>\n<p>The project focuses on the synthesis of novel <strong>N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC)-iptycene anchors<\/strong> designed to attach carbon nanotubes stably to metal surfaces for nanoelectronic applications. The student will gain experience in both chemical synthesis and nanodevice fabrication.<\/p>\n<h3>Key Responsibilities<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Synthesize NHC-iptycene molecules designed for metal surface attachment.<\/li>\n<li>Perform organic synthesis of iptycene-based molecular anchors.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in nanofabrication processes at the <strong>Kingston Nanofabrication Facility (NFK)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Fabricate top-contact carbon nanotube Field-Effect Transistors (CNT-FETs).<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate with research partners at McGill University.<\/li>\n<li>Assist with experimental data collection and device characterization.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Candidate Profile<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>3rd or 4th year undergraduate student in Chemistry or a related discipline.<\/li>\n<li>Strong interest in nanomaterials, surface chemistry, or nanoelectronics.<\/li>\n<li>Interest in interdisciplinary work combining chemistry and nanofabrication.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work independently in a research laboratory environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Position Details<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Duration: May 1 \u2013 August 30, 2026 (4
