Zewail City for Science and Technology is seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Engineer specializing in Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM)<\/strong> to support advanced microscopy facilities at the Center for Imaging and Microscopy. This role supports cutting-edge research in materials science, nanotechnology, chemistry, and physics by ensuring the reliable operation and maintenance of advanced TEM instrumentation.<\/p>\n

Key Responsibilities<\/h3>\n

TEM Operation & Alignment<\/h4>\n
    \n
  • Operate advanced TEM\/STEM systems and analytical tools such as EELS, EDX, and in-situ holders.<\/li>\n
  • Perform electron-optical alignments including gun alignment, condenser alignment, astigmatism correction, pivot point alignment, and camera alignment.<\/li>\n
  • Optimize imaging, diffraction, and spectroscopy modes for diverse experimental needs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Troubleshooting & Maintenance<\/h4>\n
      \n
    • Diagnose and troubleshoot electronic, vacuum, mechanical, and software issues affecting microscope performance.<\/li>\n
    • Coordinate scheduled preventive maintenance and vendor service visits.<\/li>\n
    • Maintain detailed logs of instrument performance and maintenance activities.<\/li>\n
    • Ensure proper vacuum integrity, filament health, and high-voltage stability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      User Support & Training<\/h4>\n
        \n
      • Train graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and faculty on TEM operation and best practices.<\/li>\n
      • Provide guidance on experimental design and imaging conditions.<\/li>\n
      • Ensure compliance with safety protocols related to high-voltage and vacuum systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Facility Management<\/h4>\n
          \n
        • Oversee daily TEM facility operations including scheduling and access management.<\/li>\n
        • Assist with installation and commissioning of new microscopy equipment.<\/li>\n
        • Support grant-funded research by ensuring reliable instrument performance and uptime.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          Required Qualifications<\/h3>\n
            \n
          • Bachelor\u2019s or Master\u2019s degree in Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nanotechnology, or a related discipline.<\/li>\n
          • Hands-on experience with Transmission Electron Microscopy and instrument alignment.<\/li>\n
          • Strong understanding of electron optics, vacuum systems, detectors, and imaging physics.<\/li>\n
          • Experience with TEM data acquisition software and digital camera systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            Preferred Qualifications<\/h3>\n
              \n
            • Experience with STEM, EELS, EDX, or in-situ TEM techniques.<\/li>\n
            • Familiarity with microscope platforms from manufacturers such as Thermo Fisher\/FEI or JEOL.<\/li>\n
            • Experience working in shared research facilities or microscopy centers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
