{"id":12141,"date":"2026-05-29T23:58:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-29T21:58:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nanohelp.eu\/careers\/job\/postdoctoral-researcher-atomistic-simulations-of-phonon-transport-in-semiconductors-and-metals\/"},"modified":"2026-06-16T00:11:46","modified_gmt":"2026-06-15T22:11:46","slug":"postdoctoral-researcher-atomistic-simulations-of-phonon-transport-in-semiconductors-and-metals","status":"expired","type":"job_listing","link":"https:\/\/nanohelp.eu\/careers\/?post_type=job_listing&p=12141","title":{"rendered":"Postdoctoral Researcher \u2013 Atomistic Simulations of Phonon Transport in Semiconductors and Metals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Organization:<\/strong> International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Research Group:<\/strong> Sotomayor Research Group<\/p>\n<p><strong>Location:<\/strong> Braga, Portugal<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Reference:<\/strong> Ref.15.26.447<\/p>\n<p><strong>Employment Type:<\/strong> Full-Time Postdoctoral Researcher<\/p>\n<h3>Research Overview<\/h3>\n<p>The Sotomayor Research Group conducts cutting-edge research in nanophononics, including nanoscale thermal transport, phononic crystals, thermoelectricity, optomechanics, acoustic metamaterials, topological bosonics, and nano-opto-electro-mechanical systems (NOEMS).<\/p>\n<p>The successful candidate will contribute to international research projects including MUSICIAN (CHIST-ERA), LEIT (ERC), MAGNIFIC, NEUROPIC, SPARK-e, and Champ-ION.<\/p>\n<h3>Key Responsibilities<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Perform lattice dynamics and phonon calculations using first-principles approaches such as DFPT.<\/li>\n<li>Develop and execute atomistic simulations of phonon and electron transport in semiconductors and metals.<\/li>\n<li>Solve the Boltzmann Transport Equation (BTE) for electrons and\/or phonons.<\/li>\n<li>Analyze simulation and experimental data and publish scientific results.<\/li>\n<li>Design, implement, optimize, and troubleshoot DFT and molecular dynamics simulations.<\/li>\n<li>Utilize HPC resources and workflow automation for large-scale simulations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Required Qualifications<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>PhD in Condensed Matter Physics, Materials Science, or related discipline.<\/li>\n<li>Research experience in semiconductors, metals, and phononic crystals.<\/li>\n<li>Strong expertise in Density Functional Theory (DFT).<\/li>\n<li>Experience with Quantum ESPRESSO, VASP, ABINIT, or similar first-principles simulation packages.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of electronic structure calculations, band structures, density of states, and Fermi surfaces.<\/li>\n<li>Experience with lattice dynamics and phonon calculations (DFPT).<\/li>\n<li>Familiarity with transport simulation tools such as BoltzTraP, EPW, ShengBTE, or almaBTE.<\/li>\n<li>Strong Linux, Python, and Bash scripting skills.<\/li>\n<li>Experience using high-performance computing (HPC) systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Preferred Qualifications<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Experience solving the Boltzmann Transport Equation (BTE) for electrons and\/or phonons.<\/li>\n<li>Background in low-temperature transport phenomena.<\/li>\n<li>Experience with molecular dynamics and machine-learning interatomic potentials.<\/li>\n<li>Experience with finite element analysis (FEA).<\/li>\n<li>Strong scientific computing and data analysis skills.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Personal Skills<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.<\/li>\n<li>Attention to detail and reproducibility in simulations.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work independently in an international research environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Contract &amp;
