Funded by the Queensland Decarbonisation Mission (QDM), the research focuses on understanding MOF materials at the atomic scale using advanced scanning probe microscopy techniques to support next-generation decarbonisation technologies.<\/p>\n<h3>Research Environment<\/h3>\n<p>The project will be conducted in the SPMQT Lab, featuring an ultrahigh-vacuum (UHV), low-temperature combined STM\/AFM (qPlus) system capable of atomic-resolution imaging and spectroscopy (STM\/STS) at cryogenic temperatures. The successful candidate will receive hands-on experimental training within an active research environment including journal clubs, student presentations, and close collaboration with postdoctoral researchers and theoretical modelling teams.<\/p>\n<h3>Supervision<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Principal Supervisor: Dr Peter Jacobson<\/li>\n<li>School of Mathematics and Physics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Preferred Background<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Strong academic background in condensed matter physics, physical chemistry, or materials science.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of condensed matter physics, surface physics, and quantum or chemical physics at interfaces.<\/li>\n<li>Experience with ultrahigh-vacuum (UHV) instrumentation and low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy\/spectroscopy (STM\/STS) is highly desirable.<\/li>\n<li>Evidence of research potential through academic achievements, publications, honours, or related experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Scholarship<\/h3>\n<p>The Research Project Scholarship includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Living stipend: AUD $37,500 per annum (tax free, 2026 rate, indexed annually)<\/li>\n<li>Full tuition fee coverage<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Application Process<\/h3>\n<p>Applicants should submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the PhD program.
