The project aims to develop a deeper fundamental understanding of defect physics and provide new insights into defect passivation in 2D materials.<\/p>\n<p>The research will use advanced vibration spectroscopies, time-resolved optical spectroscopy, and microscopy techniques to investigate the properties and behaviour of 2D quantum materials.<\/p>\n<p>The PhD candidate will work within the Division of Solid State Physics at the \u00c5ngstr\u00f6m Laboratory, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and collaborate with other doctoral students and researchers.<\/p>\n<h3>Key Responsibilities<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Conduct advanced spectroscopic investigations of 2D quantum materials.<\/li>\n<li>Study materials such as transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs).<\/li>\n<li>Perform Raman spectroscopy and photoluminescence (PL) measurements.<\/li>\n<li>Conduct transient absorption spectroscopy and X-ray-based spectroscopy.<\/li>\n<li>Design and perform experiments to investigate exciton dynamics in 2D materials.<\/li>\n<li>Study the effects of different exfoliation methods on material properties.<\/li>\n<li>Investigate mechanisms of defect passivation.<\/li>\n<li>Analyse experimental data and interpret research results.<\/li>\n<li>Write scientific manuscripts and contribute to research publications.<\/li>\n<li>Present research findings at internal meetings and international conferences.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in collaborative research discussions within the research group.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in relevant PhD courses and departmental activities.<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to teaching and other departmental duties, with such activities limited to a maximum of 20%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Required Qualifications<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Master&#8217;s degree in Physics, Chemistry, or a related field, or an equivalent qualification.<\/li>\n<li>Successfully completed relevant courses in Solid State Physics or Physical Chemistry.<\/li>\n<li>Good written and spoken English skills.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to independently plan and conduct research.<\/li>\n<li>Strong analytical and scientific research skills.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work effectively toward defined research goals.<\/li>\n<li>Strong academic writing and communication skills.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a research group.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Preferred Qualifications<\/h3>\n<p>Experience or knowledge in one or more of the following areas is advantageous:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2D material characterisation.<\/li>\n<li>Transient absorption spectroscopy.<\/li>\n<li>Raman spectroscopy.<\/li>\n<li>Photoluminescence spectroscopy.<\/li>\n<li>X-ray-based spectroscopy.<\/li>\n<li>Programming using MATLAB, Python, or similar tools for data analysis.<\/li>\n<li>Spectroscopic data analysis and interpretation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Employment Details<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Full-time doctoral position at Uppsala University.<\/li>\n<li>Four-year employment period corresponding to full-time PhD education.<\/li>\n<li>Employment is a temporary position under the Higher Education Ordinance.<\/li>\n<li>Scope of employment: 100%.<\/li>\n<li>Starting date: <strong>1 February 2027 or as agreed upon<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Placement: Uppsala, Sweden.<\/li>\n<li>Number of positions: 1.<\/li>\n<li>The doctoral student will participate in research studies and PhD courses.<\/li>\n<li>Teaching and other departmental duties may account for no more than 20% of the position.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Salary &amp; Benefits<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Salary is determined according to Uppsala University&#8217;s doctoral salary ladder and applicable local collective agreement.<\/li>\n<li>The posting does not specify a fixed salary amount.<\/li>\n<li>Employment conditions are governed by the applicable agreements for doctoral students at Uppsala University.<\/li>\n<li>The university provides an international research environment within the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.<\/li>\n<li>Opportunities to work with advanced research facilities and interdisciplinary research teams.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Application Documents<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Short cover letter of no more than 2 pages explaining your background, motivation for pursuing a PhD, and suitability for the position.<\/li>\n<li>CV of no more than 2 pages.<\/li>\n<li>Certified copy of Master&#8217;s degree and course grades.<\/li>\n<li>Copy or draft of Master&#8217;s thesis.<\/li>\n<li>Copies of publications or other relevant documents the applicant wishes to reference.<\/li>\n<li>Names and contact details of at least two referees who have agreed to provide references.<\/li>\n<li>Description of the relationship with each referee.<\/li>\n<li>Additional recommendation letters, if available.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Applications should be written in English and submitted through Uppsala University&#8217;s recruitment system.
