{"id":12367,"date":"2026-09-22T12:06:24","date_gmt":"2026-09-22T10:06:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nanohelp.eu\/careers\/?post_type=job_listing&#038;p=12367"},"modified":"2026-09-22T12:06:24","modified_gmt":"2026-09-22T10:06:24","slug":"university-of-twente-photonics-for-quantum-netherlands","status":"publish","type":"job_listing","link":"https:\/\/nanohelp.eu\/careers\/job\/university-of-twente-photonics-for-quantum-netherlands\/","title":{"rendered":"University of Twente &#8211; Photonics for Quantum Netherlands"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Organization:<\/strong> University of Twente<\/p>\n<p><strong>Faculty\/Department\/Division:<\/strong> Faculty of Science &amp; Technology, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Adaptive Quantum Optics (AQO), MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology<\/p>\n<p><strong>Location:<\/strong> Twente, Netherlands<\/p>\n<p><strong>Position:<\/strong> Two Postdoctoral Researchers in Photonics for Quantum<\/p>\n<h3>Project Overview<\/h3>\n<p>The Adaptive Quantum Optics (AQO) chair at the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology is seeking two Postdoctoral Researchers to work within the P4Q project on photonic integrated circuits (PICs) for quantum communication and quantum networking.<\/p>\n<p>A central part of the project is the integration of high-brightness III\u2013V photonic-crystal single-photon sources developed by French research partners with low-loss silicon nitride (SiN) photonic routing circuits.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers will work across the full technology chain, from integrated photonic circuit design and hybrid integration to quantum-optical characterization and field demonstrations. The project involves close collaboration with academic, research and industrial partners, including Thales, LioniX International, TNO and QuiX Quantum.<\/p>\n<p>The project also aims to demonstrate the developed technology in realistic quantum-networking scenarios. Existing and planned dark-fiber connections between the University of Twente, Saxion University of Applied Sciences and the University of M\u00fcnster will support field experiments in advanced quantum communication, including authenticated quantum communication.<\/p>\n<h3>Key Responsibilities<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Design photonic integrated circuits for quantum communication and networking.<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to the hybrid integration of photonic components.<\/li>\n<li>Work on the integration of III\u2013V photonic-crystal single-photon sources with low-loss SiN photonic routing circuits.<\/li>\n<li>Perform extensive quantum-optical characterization after fabrication.<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate closely with colleagues in the Applied Nanophotonics (ANP) department.<\/li>\n<li>Work with industrial and research partners within the P4Q consortium.<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to field demonstrations of quantum-communication technologies.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in experiments using dark-fiber connections for realistic quantum-networking scenarios.<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to research spanning integrated photonic design, hybrid integration, quantum optics and networking.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Required Qualifications<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>PhD degree in Physics.<\/li>\n<li>Solid background in integrated photonics and quantum optics or optics.<\/li>\n<li>Strong analytical and communication skills.<\/li>\n<li>Creative approach to research and problem solving.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary and internationally oriented environment.<\/li>\n<li>Good team spirit and collaborative approach.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent command of English.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Preferred Qualifications<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Experience with photonic integrated circuits.<\/li>\n<li>Experience in quantum-optical experiments.<\/li>\n<li>Experience with nanophotonic structures or integrated photonics.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of Dutch or German is an advantage.<\/li>\n<li>Experience working in multidisciplinary academic and industrial collaborations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Employment Details<\/h3>\n<p>The positions are <strong>full-time<\/strong> and offered for a duration to be discussed, with a <strong>maximum duration of 2.5 years<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The formal workweek is based on 38 hours, while full-time employment in practice is 40 hours per week.
