Postdoc in Conjugated Semiconductor Synthesis for Organic Photodetectors

Job Description

Organization: Chalmers University of Technology – Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Division of Applied Chemistry

Chalmers University of Technology invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in the synthesis of conjugated semiconductors for organic photodetectors. The position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative and dynamic research environment focused on advanced materials for sensing and imaging technologies.

The project focuses on the development and synthesis of new π-conjugated organic semiconductors for high-performance organic photodetectors (OPDs). The work integrates molecular design, organic synthesis, purification, and thin-film characterization in collaboration with partners responsible for device fabrication and testing. The overall objective is to establish clear structure–property–performance relationships enabling efficient and stable next-generation photodetectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, synthesize, and characterize π-conjugated organic semiconductors including small molecules and polymers.
  • Perform purification, structural characterization, and thin-film processing of organic semiconductor materials.
  • Investigate structure–property–performance relationships in organic photodetectors.
  • Collaborate with device researchers to improve OPD performance and stability.
  • Link material morphology and structure to device metrics and operational stability.
  • Contribute to supervision of Master’s and/or PhD students.
  • Possibility to participate in teaching activities at undergraduate or Master’s level.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree or equivalent foreign degree in a relevant field (required before employment decision).
  • Experience in synthesis and characterization of organic semiconductors.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline.
  • Experience with organic photovoltaics or organic photodetectors.

Employment Conditions

  • Full-time temporary postdoctoral position for 2 years with possibility of a 1-year extension.
  • The position requires physical presence during the entire employment period.
  • A valid residence permit must be presented before the start date if applicable.
