Job Description
Organization: University of Twente
Faculty: Faculty of Engineering Technology (ET)
Location: Enschede, Netherlands
Programme: Engineering Doctorate (EngD)
Project Overview
The CASH project pioneers the use of calcium-based materials for next-generation industrial waste heat recovery. This EngD project focuses on developing, optimizing, and scaling calcium-based thermochemical materials (TCMs) using recycled Circular Calcium Carbonate (CCC) for efficient, reversible thermal energy storage.
The research aims to overcome practical challenges such as particle agglomeration, poor thermal conductivity, and cyclic instability through innovative synthesis, chemical optimization, and advanced material design.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize calcium-based thermochemical materials for thermal energy storage.
- Investigate reaction kinetics and thermodynamic behavior of reversible calcium carbonate systems.
- Improve physical and chemical properties using advanced synthesis and characterization methods.
- Study thermal conductivity, structural integrity, and cyclic stability during heat storage and release.
- Collaborate with industrial partners, system engineers, and materials researchers to support scale-up and reactor integration.
Required Qualifications
- MSc in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Nanotechnology, or a related discipline.
- Strong background in physical chemistry, chemical synthesis, and materials characterization.
- Experience analyzing reaction kinetics, thermodynamic behavior, and thermal material properties.
- Knowledge of advanced energy materials, particularly Thermochemical Materials (TCMs), is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
- Excellent English proficiency (IELTS ≥6.5, TOEFL iBT ≥90, or Cambridge CAE/CPE if applicable).
