NanoArtography, founded in 2016 by Prof. Babak Anasori, celebrates this hidden artistry by transforming nanoscale research images into stunning visual masterpieces. Over the years, the competition has grown into an international platform, with researchers and artists from 20+ countries showcasing their nano-inspired visuals.
Now entering its 2025 edition, NanoArtography continues to bridge the gap between science, engineering, and art—inviting participants from all walks of life to explore the aesthetics of the microscopic world.

How the Judging Works

Entries are reviewed anonymously by an expert panel of scientists, engineers, and artists.

Judges are not provided with the names or affiliations of the participants during evaluation.

After the jury phase, select entries are featured on the NanoArtography Instagram page, where the People’s Choice Award is determined by public votes (likes).

Legacy of NanoArtography
Launched in 2016 at A.J. Drexel Nanomaterials Institute and expanded to Purdue University in 2019, NanoArtography has become a unique meeting point for scientific research and artistic imagination. Each year, the competition highlights the fascinating interplay of form, structure, and color at the nanoscale—images often generated from electron microscopy or advanced imaging tools but reinterpreted through an artistic lens.
