About the Program

This postdoctoral research fellowship is offered by Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), Morocco, in collaboration with the University of Waterloo, Canada. The project focuses on designing and developing encapsulation strategies for advanced CO₂ capture and utilization technologies (CCU) using polymer- and nanomaterial-based shells. The program combines world-class research in nanotechnology, chemical engineering, and sustainable energy systems.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct high-impact research on nanomaterial- and polymer-based encapsulation for CO₂ capture.

  • Develop innovative sorbents using solvents like deep eutectic solvents, ionic liquids, porous liquids, and bio-based materials.

  • Tune the surface properties of encapsulated systems for selective gas permeation (CO₂ vs H₂O).

  • Ensure chemical and mechanical stability of encapsulated beads for direct air capture (DAC) and industrial post-combustion CCU.

  • Publish in leading journals and present findings at international conferences.

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams at both UM6P and Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology.

Who Succeeds Here

  • PhD graduates in Organic Chemistry, Polymer Science, or Nanotechnology.

  • Researchers with proven experience in materials synthesis, encapsulation, and interfacial phenomena.

  • Candidates with knowledge of carbon capture technologies and thermodynamics.

  • Strong publication record and communication skills (English & French).

  • Ability to work across multicultural teams in Morocco and Canada.

Benefits & Environment

  • Competitive monthly salary ($2,000 USD) with potential additional Waterloo funding.

  • Residency split between UM6P Morocco and University of Waterloo (Canada).

  • Mentorship from leading experts in nanotechnology and chemical engineering.

  • Exposure to cutting-edge research in carbon capture, nanomaterials, and sustainable energy.
