About the Position

The Piteira Research Group at INL is advancing nanoelectronics applications in semiconductor, biomedical, and agrifood sectors. This role contributes to the Smartgnostics Agenda, focusing on creating lab-on-a-chip devices for bacteria and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) detection.

You’ll be part of an interdisciplinary team driving innovation at the interface of microfluidics, biosensing, and diagnostics.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design & fabricate advanced microfluidic devices and control systems

  • Develop operating protocols for microfluidic platforms

  • Test and characterize device performance for diagnostics applications


Mandatory Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in:

    • Mechanical Engineering

    • Physical Engineering

    • Biological Engineering (or related)

  • Expertise in microfluidic device development

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks)

  • Hands-on experience in micromachining techniques (CNC milling, laser cutting)


Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in relevant engineering or biological fields

  • Experience with diagnostic biosensing devices

  • Knowledge of 3D printing and prototyping technologies


Personal Skills

  • Strong hands-on approach and time management

  • Problem-solving mindset and customer orientation

  • Ability to work independently and in teams

  • Excellent communication skills in English
