What You’ll Do

As a Photonic Quantum Sensing Researcher, you will:

  • Shape future technologies by contributing to IMEC’s strategic roadmap for quantum & AI infrastructure.

  • Design and model integrated photonic & quantum systems for high-precision sensing and scalable computing.

  • Collaborate with engineers & architects to define system requirements and validate PIC (photonic integrated circuit) designs.

  • Perform simulations & modeling using tools such as Lumerical, VPI, Matlab, and Python.

  • Validate designs experimentally with fabricated PICs and off-the-shelf components.

  • Document and share findings through patents, publications, and technical reports.

  • Mentor interns and PhD students, shaping the next generation of photonics researchers.

Who Succeeds Here

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Photonics, or related fields.

  • Experience in quantum & photonic system design, PIC modeling, and optical systems.

  • Strong laboratory skills in signal processing, PIC characterization, and experimental validation.

  • Proficiency in Lumerical Interconnect, VPI, Matlab, and Python.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to thrive in collaborative, multicultural teams.

  • Self-driven mindset with entrepreneurial and project management skills.
