📄 Detailed Article
The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg is seeking a visionary scientist to take on a dual leadership role — directing the state-of-the-art Genomics Core Facility (GeneCore) while pioneering cutting-edge genomics methods through independent research.
This unique position combines strategic facility management with the freedom to innovate. As Head of GeneCore, you will ensure EMBL remains at the forefront of next-generation sequencing, single-cell genomics, spatial omics, robotics-based liquid handling, and genome engineering. Alongside facility leadership, you will run your own independent research group in the Genome Biology Unit, creating innovative techniques that can be implemented within the core facility.
Why EMBL?
This is more than a job — it’s a chance to influence the future of genome biology. EMBL offers world-class infrastructure, core funding, and a vibrant, interdisciplinary research environment. You’ll work alongside over 110 research groups across six sites, participate in international collaborations, and gain visibility through global conferences and training events hosted on-site.
The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in genomics or related fields, have extensive experience in methods development, and be able to integrate research and service provision effectively. Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills are essential.
With EMBL’s tax-free salaries, generous benefits, relocation support, and family-friendly policies, this role offers the resources and flexibility to excel both scientifically and personally.
