VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, one of Europe’s leading applied research organisations, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position focusing on isotope separation processes for fusion energy fuel production.

This three-year fixed-term role, starting in January 2026, is part of Finland’s Postdoctoral Programme for Research Institutes, funded with €40 million to recruit 85 PhD-level experts between 2025–2028. The programme aims to strengthen R&D competence in fields critical to society and industry, fostering collaboration between academia, industry, and government.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advance isotope separation methods using MOFs and other novel materials.

  • Conduct and coordinate experimental work including material characterisation, electrochemical testing, and isotope analysis.

  • Collaborate with theoretical and modelling research partners.

  • Prepare journal publications, conference presentations, and project reports.

  • Support the design and optimisation of experimental setups.

  • Contribute to funding proposals and mentor junior researchers.

Candidate Profile

  • PhD in electrochemistry, materials science, radiochemistry, chemical engineering, or related field (earned within the past 5 years).

  • Hands-on experience with MOFs, nanoporous materials, or isotope separation technologies.

  • Strong experimental skills, ideally including ICP-MS, FTIR, SEM-EDS, XRD, and/or electrochemical techniques.

  • Excellent communication skills in English and experience in scientific publishing.

  • Open-minded, innovative, and comfortable working across disciplines.
